The Mint - this building was the south wing of the Sydney Hospital from 1816 to 1854. Known as the Rum Hospital, it was built by private contractors in exchange for an exclusive government license to import rum.
The first branch of the Royal Mint outside England was established here in 1854 and operated until 1927.
